Cwmcarn Freeride Park

The Cwmcarn Freeride park opened Wednesday 6th September 06. It is situated half way up Cwmcarn Mountain at the second car park just before the totem poles and wooden bears. Ben Greenland, Box (from BAD ASS BIKES), Drew and myself Jim went up there on Thursday 7th September. We got the uplift which is really good, cost us £15 each for 5 uplifts (well worth it, thanks to Darryl the Driver!!) The Freeride park itself is still under construction, if you get the uplift you will see the massive wall ride from the fire road on the way up.

We started at the top of the freeride park, it splits into two runs at the start, we believe that one run is XC mellow track the other one starts to twist and turn straight away. The track is roughly 4ft wide and is quite level, it turns around a berm and the first thing you see is three ladder drop offs.  The first ladder is a 1ft drop and the biggest is 4ft, next to it is a small right hand hip then you go to what they call the 'corkscrew'. This is a gravel corkscrew which twists around and you go through a tunnel. You pedal along the track hitting berms, small jumps, jumps into berms left & right, you then approach a series of 4/5 different tabletops. They are quite small, very punchy, maybe better for a 4 or 5 inch travel bike not really a downhill. After the tables it starts to slope down into the right hand wall ride which is 7-8ft tall and 14-15ft long, really nice super smooth and great fun.

I spoke to the guy who made it all and he is going to keep building and he tells me there is more to come.
